Use your Insta360 as a lap timer
If you don't have a lap timing device, but you own an Insta360, here is some good news for your next trackday: Serious-Racing now lets you turn your camera into a lap timer!
It's always a great idea to record video during your trackday, because it adds so much to the experience: apart from reliving your moments of glory and sharing them with friends and family, videos are a great way to prepare for a trackday by letting you visualise and learn (or re-learn) the track layout. If you are in the market for a new camera, we recommend you get one with GPS, to make it easy to record lap time data and start tracking your performance on Serious-Racing.
We now support the Insta360 data format on Serious-Racing, so you can effectively turn your Insta360 camera into a lap timer and upload your laps to compare with friends and get faster.
Insta360 cameras have a built-in GPS sensor, which means that when you record video, you also record GPS data; no extra apps or devices needed! We now support the Insta360 data format on Serious-Racing, so you can effectively turn your Insta360 camera into a lap timer and upload your laps to compare with friends and get faster.
We are writing an early letter to Santa, but sadly we don't (yet) have any hands-on experience with Insta360 cameras. We were contacted by users who wanted to upload their Insta360 GPS data to Serious-Racing, so we worked with them to add support for the Insta360 file format. Based on reviews and pricing compared with some other action cams with GPS, we think the options below could be very interesting to get you started, but it is by no means an exhaustive list. We chose to highlight these two because there are some freebies included. If you like the look of a different Insta360 camera, you can still support us by using our promo code INRO1JJ.

Insta360 Ace or Ace Pro
Motorbike bundles are available for these two cameras. Plus you get a free screen protector with this link.

Insta360 X4
There's also a motorbike bundle available for this cam. You will get a free selfie stick if you use this link.
Uploading your laps
To make it super easy and quick to upload your laps to Serious-Racing, we only extract the GPS data from your video files; the video itself doesn’t get uploaded. You may not want to share all your videos from an entire session anyway, so this way you get to decide. You can add the videos you want to share to your laps after you've uploaded the GPS lap time data.
To start uploading laps from your Insta360 videos, simply go to the Upload page and select your video. Please note you need to do this on a computer, it won’t work from a mobile phone. Check out the step-by-step explanation in our Help section to see how easy it is.
The video below shows you how to upload data from a GoPro camera; it works exactly the same for Insta360.
Let us know if you have an Insta360 camera and how you are finding it. Happy to hear about your experiences and if you enjoy being able to upload your laps to Serious-Racing.
Although our articles are completely independent, some contain affiliate links. This means that, if the linked website has a product for sale and you buy that product, we get a referral fee from the seller. This doesn’t make the price of the product any higher for you as a buyer. Doing this allows us to offset some of the costs we have running Serious-Racing.
